𝑺𝒂𝒗𝒗𝒚 𝑮𝒂𝒕𝒆 is a rack that implements a (sadly under-used) technique for vastly better gating results when using noisy effects like distortion pedals and guitar amps, or after modulation effects that can cause unpredictable surges in level. The highest-class physical guitar gate pedals in existence utilize this technique — which in their case require extra routing with guitar cables. Fortunately, we are in the digital realm, so no extra cabling is necessary for us to accomplish the trick. It works automatically with pre-configured routing.
So what does it do?
Savvy Gate makes it dead quick to drop an effect into the drop area, and then gate that effect, but (now here's the key) according to the pre effect signal. This is particularly useful for ultra-tight gating of, say, a loud, distorted guitar amp: the moment that the original guitar signal falls below a certain threshold, the distorted signal clamps to silence. No annoying fizzly crackly hum going on, no more waiting for the extra noise floor caused by the distortion to fade out before the gate kicks in, no sporadic gate jitter from random subtle finger-on-string noises...
Try it! Chances are you'll be blown away.
Determine onset of gating action.
Smoothify signals near the threshold.
Level compensation for the pre signal.
Pre vs Post
Gate according to a blend of pre and post signals, if desired.
If you're getting clicks, slow it up. If the onset transient is too soft, hasten it down.
Longer values prevent signal from dropping immediately.
How fast the signals decay once the hold time passes.
Maximum amount of gain reduction.
